Earlier this year, I completed the Loowit Trail that circumnavigates our local iconic mountain-that-blew-its-top, St. Helens. So it was time to tackle the climb to Monitor Ridge from where you can look straight into the crater. The clouds played hide and seek with us all day but by the time we summited the rim, they cleared and showed a spectacular view, even in 35 mph winds.
The climb to the top, which is not a technical climb, requires a permit.
